Cancellation of contract

I was due for an upgrade in October 2016 and on 4 November 2016 I received an sms from Vodacom confirming that my contract has expired and I can either upgrade or proceed on a month to month basis. I have made the decision to change to another service provider. A staff member confirmed that although I received that sms, I need to dial the cancellation line in order to keep my number on pay-as-you go. I contacted them and they were off-line, however, I continued with signing a contract with the new service provider. They confirmed that the change-over will only take place once the contract has been cancelled with Vodacom. I contacted Vodacom the following day and they said that my contract only expires January 2017. When I referred to the sms I received in November, they said that it was sent by mistake. I went in-store to enquire about an early cancellation fee and they said that I would need to cancel the request for cancellation in order to confirm the fee. I decided against it and agreed that I will pay the remaining debit orders until January. Two days later, I had no data, no minutes, not even sms's on my phone and suddenly the phone for the new service provider was fully operational. I enquired about it the next day in-store and they couldn't give me an answer. I have been trying to get hold of Vodacom through the cancellation line and the call back service on their website, but they just responded that they can't help me because my number is not listed as a Vodacom number. Which is fine, because I wanted to cancel my contract with them. HOWEVER, 00:00 last night, their debit order went through and once again I am struggling to get answers. What exactly am I paying for now because as they confirmed, my number is not listed on their database. Where is that data going to? I am scared to cancel the debit order at the bank as I may be listed as having a bad credit record. I am frustrated because they keep telling me to contact the cancellation line and in return they tell my they cannot help me. I need answers!! I am paying for no data, no minutes, no sms's and absolutely no service. I need feedback asap!!
