Cancelation woes

My contract ended in January so I tried converting it to prepaid in February to port my number . I was told to expect a confirmation SMS but none came. Been calling every 2 days since. I've been given various excuses including that the first agent didn't hit submit, it's been escalated (by every agent), it has only been escalated once before (by the 5th agent), that they're pulling recordings to see why it isn't being canceled, that there's a hidden waiting period nobody told me about and that I should wait to see if I get lucky and don't get billed again at the end of March etc. I just want the contract gone so I can port my number and stop carrying two phones everywhere. How hard can that be?

A Vodacom representative contacted me and had the cancellation requested loaded within minutes. I'm happy that they have individuals that are so efficient, but confused as to why the front-line service personnel are not able to achieve similar results, but are more concerned with account conservation attempts.

It should never be necessary to publicly complain for routine service queries to be resolved.
