Breach of contract forced to pay money
I took my phone into the Vodacom shop (Zenith Cellular) in Newcastle on the 20th October 2022 at the castle rock mall for a warranty repair claim. I was told I had to pay R100 courier fee in order for my phone to be sent away for repairs. I argued the fact that why should I pay for a courier fee if the device is still under warranty. I was told how do I expect my phone to get to a service repair center. If I dont pay it, my phone will not leave the shop.... At this moment I become very irritated as I then asked them to show me in my contract where it stipulates that I must pay for my phone to be sent away. They said nit was not on the contract as they are an (out of area store). Form me its not about the R100, its a pure principal thing. I dont believe it is good business practice for Vodacom to be conducting charging clients to send their defect products away. The phone is 7 months old, used by a lady who is very maticulous with her things.
I am asking Vodacom what is there stance on this matter as I believe it is extremely bad business practice for them to ask clients to pay for their phones to be sent away to repair centers.
Secondly after paying for the courier, my phone was only received in bloemfontein this morning. after a week of me handing it in and being forced to pay the money. I will not be renewing any of my current contracts and cancelling my business contracts aswell. I will also be telling everyone I know of the practice in which Vodacom is partaking in.
