Billing issues // ******** legal action threats

Can't believe that Vodacom has handed over an account to debt collectors to take legal action - we are not even aware of any outstanding debt whatsoever! The day before moving overseas we went into the Vodacom Kolonnade store and asked for the settlement amount to "buy-off" remainder of prepaid contract. An amount of R3,394.57 was paid and I have bank statement to prove it. We explained to the consultant that we are moving overseas and would like to settle account/remaining period of contract in full and final. Well, appears by doing the right thing in meeting all financial obligations before immigrating is futile. This is what you get for doing the right thing. We never received a single account, payment request, overdue reminder, letter of demand or anything of that nature since the contract was settled - Vodacom has always had my email address on record. Now we receive this shocking letter from your debt collecting attorneys for an amount exceeding R1,000! They further refuse to provide me with an account statement reflecting what this debt collection is for but still expect us to make immediate payment?? We also asked where and when Vodacom tried to get payment from me before handing the account over. These attorneys (Burnard, Raff & Associates) you use are very unprofessional, rude, unco-operative and useless and does not listen to reason, nor have they taken into account all facts provided to them. With 10 years of debt collection and legal experience in our household , we are shocked to see the manner in which they attempt to do debt collection. They sent an "electronic summons" as a scare tactic, even mentioning imprisonment of 3 months. There is no such thing as an electronic summons, nor can you be sent to jail for debt!!!! You can also not proceed with legal action without providing the "cause of debt" and providing full breakdown thereof, especially when requested by the defendant. How are we to even consider making any form of payment if we don't even know what it is for. According to us we paid our dues to Vodacom on 18/1/2017. This means that they are not giving us opportunity to negotiate at all. In terms of the law you have to give such opportunity before proceeding further. This is utterly disgusting practice and we will have to report the attorneys to the Law Society for not following the correct procedures in civil procedure and also report Vodacom to the Consumer Protection Authority if this matter does not get resolved asap. Please don't attempt to contact me on the number you have on record as it no longer exists. Current and correct number is provided in this complaint - please add +64 or 0064 in front of the number and drop the first zero, otherwise the call/message will not connect. For an example: +6 ********** if calling from mobile number // 006 ********** if calling from landline (my number is noted in the complaint, this is an example). Also bear in mind the time difference between 2 countries as my call will go unanswered after 20h00 until 08h00. We are 10 hours ahead of SA. We would also appreciate if you could send us a full account statement which reflects the settlement amount we paid on 18/1/2017 and what your charges thereafter was which we are being incorrectly billed for.
