Beware of Vodacom! Sim swap *****
On the 15th of August 2017, i received a message from MTN about a porting request which I had never requested. Shortly i received a message that the porting request had been declined. I called Vodacom who confirmed that indeed a porting request had been initiated but they couldn't see by who and where. They assured me that because I was on contract, no porting would be done. I asked that they block all such requests including sim swap and they said they couldn't block future sim swaps ...what a terrible network.
Then later on i received this message,
"Vodacom has ported ********** ********** MTNSP ********** ********** . If you did not request this port or this port happened in error call ********** 326."
I called the number provided and got answered by a lady who told me that there had been a porting request that had been done at around 6pm and that it had been declined. I told her i had done no such request and she wasn't helpful at all.
Question is how does Vodacom even process a porting request without allowing a customer to authorize it from his own phone? I don't care that they say they declined the request because the reason for declining the request had nothing to do with security but had to do with the fact that I was still on contract. Had I not been on contract, they would gladly have approved without giving me the option of approving it on my side. This is a terrible network. Please be careful and I am not supprised when I read ********** activities that have occured where vodacom numbers are involved. Terrible!
