Beware of ******* SIM swaps - Vodacom does not protect us.

My 76 year old mother in law's phone stopped working, so she thought it had packed up. I gave her another one, still not working. So of she went to Vodacom, was told the SIM was not working, got another SIM, still not working (even after they helped her RICA it.) I then gave her a MTN SIM, which works 100%. In May, we check her Edgars account, and suddenly there are a ton of pre-paid vouchers on the account. Went of to Edgars, was told they will "look" into it. Has not stopped. Eventually got the number linked to her Edgars account from RCMS (3d party service via Edgars), and lo and behold it all went through the "broken" SIM number. Asking Vodacom for proof on how this happened is like talking to a brick wall - "please contact Edgars" is the standard response. SOOO frustrated. Yet again it seems Vodacom do not protect their customers.

Thanks to Johan and his staff at Chatz Vodacom President Hyper for trying to assist us as best they could. Seems that your number is up for grabs by these third party operators nowadays. Long story short - Vodacom has no control or access to numbers that were ported to a third party (RMCS in this case - see my other review on them). The thing that worries me as well is that we had two other SIM cards that were brought at this store and both were not on my mother in law's name - had them blocked in store. So still asking - what are the cellular companies doing to protect thier customer? It seems very little to nothing.
