Be Careful Before Signing with Vodacom
Extremely Frustrating Experience – Be Careful Before Signing with Vodacom
Think twice before entering into any agreement or contract with Vodacom.
Trying to cancel a contract with them is nearly impossible — even if the contract has already ended or even if you are willing to pay whatever penalty is required. Their internal processes are extremely frustrating and designed in a way that keeps you stuck.
You cannot cancel inside a Vodacom store where you can actually speak to a person. Instead, you get bounced around between departments endlessly.
Over the last few days I have spoken to:
After Sales
Cancellations
Retentions
Store Managers
Every time there is a different excuse:
“The system is open at after sales”
“Your profile cannot be accessed”
“It shows pending at retentions”
“Cancellations cannot assist until after sales does something first”
It is honestly ridiculous.
To make matters worse, my contract was ending in February 2026 after four years. I was repeatedly contacted by Vodacom’s rewards partner company pushing for a renewal. I clearly said multiple times that I did not want to renew and wanted to move to prepaid.
Despite this, the contract was somehow renewed to a SIM-only contract without my consent.
Vodacom always says “all calls are recorded”, which is interesting because I also record my calls — and on my recording I clearly state four separate times: no renewal, no upgrade, move to prepaid.
Yet here I am.
The rewards company says they cannot help with cancellations. Cancellations say after sales must fix something first. After sales sends you somewhere else again.
I have now spent over 9 hours across 4 days trying to get this resolved and the contract still has not been cancelled. I have even offered to pay whatever is required just to end it.
This is not about money anymore — it is about a broken and extremely frustrating process.
I honestly hope the Consumer Commission looks into Vodacom’s cancellation procedures, because something is clearly wrong.
My advice to anyone considering Vodacom: Just don’t.
I cannot speak for other cellular providers, but my experience with Vodacom has been unbelievably frustrating.
For now I will keep calling every day and hoping someone eventually cancels it.
Wish me luck.
