Atrocious customer care regarding astronomical data bill

I am an extremely upset Vodacom customer who is unable to find somebody to speak to that will address my complaint seriously.

My first call to Vodacom has reference number S3-GX83E-E24EH. The response received included an itemized billing and the comment "The majority of the data was used on the Wifi Router (IMEI ********** ********** 33) (42 gigs) for youtube video streaming , itunes , apple updates and windows updates." I scrutinized the billing and found that on a number of days I was billed repetitively for something of 106MB, in fact on one day, 10 May, I was billed for 106MB 58 times in succession (there are other days that a similar pattern occurred). The usage that Vodacom referred to on the email occurs in our household every month and is not something exceptional. We pulled the usage logs on all our devices and the usages in May was in line with previous months' usage history. The only downloads that were done in May (billed June) that were out of the ordinary were software updates on our new PlayStation and LeapPad (the logs reflected under 4GB for this).

I contacted Vodacom again to obtain an explanation on these recurring 106MB charges and was told that enquiry S3-GX83E-E24EH had been closed and that the billing reflected was indeed my usage. No amount of requesting that somebody investigate and explain the recurring data charges was considered.

I phoned again last week Friday and spoke to a much friendlier lady who advised she would reopen the original enquiry (reference S3-GYSAC-CT44 for this call). To date I have received no further feedback.

On the same day I requested that a payment arrangement be made for the June invoice (reference S3-GYS9F-F4HA) as I do not have the funds to pay the invoice once-off. To date no response has been received and last night the debit order went off anyway and put my entire account in a number of debit orders rejecting and forcing me to loan money to meet my other financial obligations.

I am extremely disappointed and frustrated that Vodacom has only been interested in taking my money and has shown no effort at all to assist me in any way to find out what the recurring data charges are for, or assist me with payment arrangements, putting me into a situation where I have suffered financial hardship and the repercussions that come with rejected debit orders.

Vodacom has zero concern for it's customers.

I would also like to understand how it is that I didn’t receive a single phone call or email from Vodacom to let me know that my account was getting out of hand and reflecting above average data usage. Should this not be part of the Customer Service that Vodacom delivers? Is it even ethical for Vodacom to allow this type of excessive usage to take place without notifying the customer that something appears to be amiss?
