At my wits end!!!!! Phone sim locked
Good day
I bought a cellphone cash from Ackermans, on the 3rd of September. I bought another phone in the interim as the phone I purchased from Ackermans was too slow.
I am now trying to sell the phone that I bought CASH, and they're telling me that the phone is sim locked. To your network..
This is frustrating as NO other place will buy a phone that is Sim locked.
I phoned your call centre and the agent told me that I need to sell the phone to someone that has a Vodacom sim card. Where must I find someone like that????? I can understand if it was a contract phone, that it would be sim locked. No where on my till slip does it say that it's sim locked!!!!!!! I can send a photo.
If this does not get sorted out i will stop paying my Vodacom contract. I don't care, I'm stuck with a phone that I can just as well throw in the trash because no one will purchase it because it's sim locked.
It's up to you, either unlock the phone or cancel my contract. And I will not pay any fees that will occur from this.
World Wide Worx founder Arthur Goldstuck says that SIM-locking a phone could only be justified if the phone was heavily subsidised by the mobile operator. “If the consumer bought the phone at its full retail price, SIM-locking is anti-competitive and anti-consumer,” he says. https://www.news24.com/fin24/locked-into-loopholes-***9
Until Icasa prevents SIM-locking through regulations, consumers like myself are going to have to be vigilant in asking the right questions when purchasing a new phone – which is made even harder given that it seems difficult to know who to believe.
