Apple iStore not obeying our contract agreement with Vodacom
Very frustrated with the Apple iStore in Brooklyn Mall. I entered into a Vodacom contract at the Apple iStore for a MacBook Air in November 2021. The consultant who assisted us, Kagiso Phahte, provided us with a 24-month contract for the MacBook and the ZTE router.
The first issue arose upon receiving my items. I inquired if the SIM was capped at 2GB, and he affirmed. However, when I received my first bill at the end of December 2021, the SIM card data was not capped, and Vodacom intended to charge over R1000 for the excess data. Fortunately, after confirming with Vodacom, I did not pay for the SIM card. Valentine, a Vodacom representative, retrieved the phone call where I specifically asked for the data to be capped.
Kagiso at iStore in Brooklyn then instructed me to collect a new SIM card with a new number that was capped.
Fast forward to today, my 24-month contract has supposedly ended. Upon calling to terminate the SIM card, Vodacom informed us that the contract on their side shows it's a 36-month contract, not 24 months. Although the original contract clearly states 24 months, I assume that the new quote given to me after the whole SIM card issue indicated 36 months, not the 24 months as it should've been according to my contract. Vodacom advised me to return to the iStore and request a correction to 24 months, as stated in the Individual Agreement Contract.
Today, I visited iStore Brooklyn with a copy of my 24-month contract. The assistant manager insisted the contract was wrong and the quote was correct. Despite explaining the legal binding of the contract, he claimed, "you should've known it was wrong, and no device will be less than 36 months." Despite Vodacom's advice, he refused to acknowledge the error or accept responsibility.
It's frustrating to be given a 24-month contract, make all the required signatures, only to be told later that it's actually 36 months. This situation raises concerns about the Consumer Protection Act, as no one seems willing to rectify the discrepancy between Vodacom and the iStore.
