Appalling Service by Vodacom

Has anyone tried to cancel a contract? It's impossible. My son and I tried attending in person to cancel a contract: in my name but is for him. We went to the Nicolway store and filled in multiple forms instructing a cancellation. Vodacom just ignored the instruction. So I then phoned, and told them I want to cancel a contract: in my name but is for my son. They put me through to the "Retentions" department: not what I asked for, and the consultant went into sales overdrive. Eventually I had to interrupt her and I gave her a firm instruction: cancel. She confirmed that on 28 February the contract would be cancelled. My son advised me that for the next 10 days he was phoned by Vodacom every day to try and persuade him to stay. He was adamant: no. So guess what, they simply ignored my instruction: today the debit order went through unchanged and my son confirmed that his phone is still active. So I have twice instructed Vodacom to cancel, and twice they have ignored me. So now they have gained a few months extra subscription, by ignoring a lawful instruction of a customer. Think of the amount of money they can earn by ignoring cancellation instructions. Seems to me I am going to have to go to the Small Claims Court.... And by the way: reason for cancellation: bad service.

Yup it has been cancelled but only after I threatened to sue. I also told the consultant it was clear that the instruction not to cancel clearly comes from the top, if I read HelloPeter. And as a matter of interest, whilst I was actually on the phone to the consultant issuing my threat, an SMS came through advising of the cancellation. That was the first time I had received such an SMS, which just confirms my belief that my previous instructions were ignored, and when the consultants confirmed the cancellation to me, they did so in full knowledge that they were, to be polite, being very economical with the truth....
