On the 1st of November 2017, I phoned vodacom online to take out a contract. I opted for the Samsung S7 flat, on a Smart S+ for R459 per month. The colour options available on the phone were pink, silver and black. I chose the pink. The lady on the phone assured me that they will be getting more stock of the pink and there will be a 2 week delay. I said I am willing to wait. I then got an email and SMS stating that everything had been approved and later got a phone call from another lady to finalize everything and she said I should have my phone in 3 to 5 working days.
After a few days of waiting and hearing nothing, I decided to phone and get an update as to what was happening. I spoke to a consultant who said that they are still waiting for the phone, and wasn't sure if they were getting them at all. She then put me through to another lady to double check if they were receiving more stock of the pink phone. To find out that the phone had been discontinued for over a month already and they were not getting anymore. How could they have not known that from the start? None of this would have happened if people just knew what they were doing.
However, not thinking it were an issue, I asked to change the colour to the silver phone. The lady then told me that all the contracts have changed and I must now pay R539 if I want to go for the same phone and contract.
My question is, if Vodacom were aware of the fact that they did not have the pink phone in stock, why did they promise me they were getting stock of it? I was told that if I had rather chosen the silver one, I would have received it a few days later. I did not hear back once from Vodacom to tell me that the deals were changing on the 8th and that I wasn't going to receive anything. They did not even have the common courtesy to phone me and ask if I want to change the phone colour, knowing that they didn't have stock of the pink one.
I asked to take it further and wanted to get the manager involved. The lady said she had sent an email to him asking for the deal to be reopened for me.
After waiting for a day, I phoned again. No one could help me and on many occasions I got the phone put down on me. Eventually I managed to find out the ladies name who I had dealt with from the start, and she said she has heard nothing back yet.
Today (13th November), I finally got a phone call to state that they could not reopen the deal for me, and that I should look at the deals they currently offer.
I am disgusted in the service received. To be promised one thing then told that I can no longer have what I was promised, and if I do want it, I must pay more.
Vodacom is at fault here, and I am not willing to let this slide. I want what was promised to me, the same contract and phone for the original amount. If not, I will be taking this matter further.
