Appalling, Frustrating, *********** Service

Contacted Vodacom re a huge data bill on our daughter's tablet - this despite there being a R50 cap placed on the account. Contacting Vodacom was the normal 'phone 5x, get cut off, get placed on hold forever, etc.' - in short, stuck in the 5th circle of hell.

Got an sms from Lindiwe Mbilana: Dear Customer, please be advised that after investigation I can confirm that the billing is correct on the number as per the volumes of data that were processed. Please note that it is your responsibility to protect your device against unintended data usage when connected with mobile data. Android phones have a built-in data monitor that can tell you what apps contributed
to the data usage under your phone settings and data usage. You may visit http://ow.ly/yQqyr on how to manage the data usage. As a once off gesture of goodwill we have credited ****** with 1GB of data bundle. Thank you and have an awesome day. Kind regards, Vodacom Customer Care Lindiwe Mbilana

No method on the planet of replying to Lindiwe re this NON-answer - unless one does the 5th circle of hell phone thing again. Tried emailing Vodacom - no joy there either.

So no answer to the actual question: what is the point of putting a R50 cap onto a number (which
in this case is used by our daughter), if Vodacom is just going to allow data usage ad infinitum? This is a functionality granted on Vodacom's website, which Vodacom has adhered to in the past, but all of a sudden has chosen to ignore - system being temperamental?

Too state the blindingly obvious: customers utilise this very functionality so that they do not have to check their own / their children's phones every hour for data usage. When one effects a R50 cap on Vodacom's website, one expects Vodacom to then adhere to this.

Credit passed by Vodacom for % of overspend. Vague disclaimer in response to the question why account limits are not consistently app****; and why when Vodacom's system fails, they attempt to pass the buck to the customer - 'it is your responsibility to check data, etc'. One of the mechanisms by one controls excess data usage by one's children is specifically the account limit functionality on Vodacom's website.
