A deeply disappointing experience at Vodacom Bayside Mall after over 15 years of loyalty to Vodacom

Rating: 1 Star Nevenka Naidoo – DKN Transport (Corporate Client 15+ Years) Compaint against Vodacom Bayside Mall (Western Cape) It is with genuine disappointment and a heavy sense of betrayal that I write this review. DKN Transport has been a loyal Vodacom customer for over 15 years, and my company holds a significant corporate account with a substantial credit limit. I have always spoken highly of Vodacom's service. However, my recent experience at the Vodacom Shop Bayside has left me questioning the integrity of the sales practices being employed.

I visited the store to attend to a data contract matter, and upon mentioning that I was due for an upgrade, the agent began discussing the Vivo X300 Pro. What followed was an extended consultation where I was shown numerous videos highlighting the phone's camera capabilities and accompanying accessories. These accessories were presented in a manner that strongly imp**** they were part of the offering.

At one point, I remarked that the deal seemed like a "no brainer" if all of those accessories were included. I placed my trust in the agent as a Vodacom representative to guide me correctly. She did not correct me or clarify that the accessories were not included. I left the store that day with the firm belief that I had secured a comprehensive photography package. It was only upon opening the boxes at home a week later, that the disappointing truth emerged.

Furthermore, whenever I attempted to explore other options, such as the iPhone 17 or Samsung models, these were actively discouraged. Concerns were also raised about alternative brands in a manner that steered me away from considering them. In retrospect, I feel I was not given a balanced opportunity to consider what might have been the most suitable device for my needs. What troubles me most is that the agent had full access to my corporate account and my usage history. Despite this, I was moved onto a contract with fewer minutes than I currently require each month—a basic oversight that has direct implications for my business. Additionally, my company has never in its history entered into a 36-month contract; we have always preferred 24-month terms. However the Vivo split over the 36 months, made pricing nore competitive, against the competition.

When I raised my concerns within the cooling off period, I was told that the accessories are not advertised on any Vodacom platform, and that because the phone was opened and signed for, it could not be returned. The matter was escalated to regional management (Vodacom Tygervalley) - but i received a similar response in terms of me having signed the contract and it being binding. To hide behind policy in this manner, when the confusion arose directly from the sales presentation in store, feels dismissive and unworthy of a company that prides itself on customer relationships. It is particularly painful to be treated this way after 15 years of loyalty to Vodacom.

I am not writing this to be difficult. I am writing this because I genuinely feel that the trust I placed in your representative was misplaced, and I believe Vodacom should be aware of the extreme lengths that agents would go to, to secure a sale, even as far as gross misrepresentation of facts.

I respectfully request that this matter be investigated thoroughly. I would like to understand what commission or incentive structures may be driving such enthusiastic promotion of specific brands over others. More importantly, I ask that my contract be reviewed and that I be permitted to transition to a suitable device on a 24-month contract that reflects my actual business usage.

I have always valued my relationship with Vodacom. I sincerely hope that this experience is not indicative of how loyal corporate clients are now regarded, and that someone in authority will reach out to address this with the seriousness it deserves, failing which, I am left with no option, but to escalate this to the consumer commission.

Thank you for taking the time to read my review.
