93-minute waiting time at Vodacom World!

Customer service at Vodacom World has sunk to a spectacular new low. Today a lady sitting on a bar stool, sullenly handing out queuing tickets to customers at the Vodacom Shop told me with a straight face that the waiting time to see a customer care representative would be 93 minutes. She claimed that this because the shop was "very busy". It was 2:30 on a Tuesday afternoon, and the shop was dead quiet!

I attempted to get assistance at the Vodaworld Metro store instead, but half of their support staff had gone missing, with only one at his post, already busy with a customer. I then tried to get assistance at Smartcom, and the young lady who volunteered to help me with my query was unable to answer all my questions. Throughout the conversation I had with her, she carried on a personal conversation with another colleague, and then took a personal call on her cellphone, while I waited patiently for her finish her chat. Eventually, she asked a colleague to take over from her, because she wanted to leave to go somewhere else.

Once again today I have realized the extent to which South Africa is going to hell in a handbasket, and the state of customer service at Vodaworld illustrates this vividly.

I have logged this same complaint with the Vodacom Call Centre TWICE before. The last time I logged it was two weeks ago. I am still waiting for someone at Vodacom to give me any feedback of any kind whatsoever. I am certainly not going to hold my breath until a Vodacom consultant phones me back.

In response to my complaint, a Vodacom customer care representative telephoned me, apologized and offered me a free 1GB data bundle to make up for the aggravation I've experienced with the My Vodacom app and the fact that I was unable to resolve this at Vodaworld. While the free 1GB data bundle is much appreciated, I still refuse to accept that customers are expected to wait NINETY-THREE MINUTES (that's an hour and a half, folks) to be helped at the Vodacom Shop at Vodaworld. For some bizarre reason this unbelievably long waiting time seemed perfectly normal to the customer care representative who phoned me. I am still stunned by that -- especially in view of how the longest I've ever waited to be helped at the Centurion Mall Vodacom Shop is 10 minutes -- during peak time on a Saturday morning! I think one can safely say that, if you're a busy person who doesn't have AN HOUR AND A HALF to waste, you should AVOID going to Vodaworld at all costs.
