2 stars is generous regarding Vodacoms cancellation policy

Having tried to cancel my contract, since I am heading overseas for the next few years, I learned that I owed the remainder of my device payments (FAIR enough) AND 60% of what I would pay for monthly top up airtime!

I'm on a UCount Flexi top up contract, with R200 paid for airtime each month. With this cancellation fee, I'd have to pay R120 per month (in one lump sum) for ABSOLUTELY NOTHING, for the remaining months of my contract.

How is that even remotely ethical, fair, or right, Vodacom? I mean, the CPA States that the payment for cancellation has to be 'fair', and 60% is your interpretation of that?

To make matters worse, one can now only cancel by calling the cancellation call center! Moreover, cancellations can not be processed on your system between the 27th of one month and the 4th of the next, thanks to billing? It's pretty obvious that you guys have provided your call center staff with very very limited ability to help us. They just plug your info into the system and send you a bill to cancel! No flexibility or empathy for individual or situation.

You're making enemies of loyal customers. Talk to us and negotiate what is "fair". I'm about to leave to go overseas and you are really *****ing me over.

When I return to SA, it seems I will not be a customer.
