Car Burnt - insured - but no insurance!!

On 1st May 2016, the vehicle our sun drove to his hom, started burning from the engin. He stopped immediately, the car locked from the inside and he broke a side window to get out of the car. Some other people stopped to try to help, but the smoke was at that time not only smoke, but fire. He and the people around, opened the bonnet, but as they tried to pull out the battery to prevent an explotion the whole engin was on fire - strangely the car's engin still ran, but he switch off the power with the key before he got out of the car. The car was a 1996 Pajero and in good running condition with new battery, very good tyres on mag-rims. New Radio/CD player with new speakers, and a barely new alarm system fitted into the car.

The people who tried to help to **** the fire, phoned the police. The accident was more or less 10 to 15km from the tar road, on a gravel road. When the police arrived, the car was nearly totally burnt out.

Our son gave the claim to the Virseker Insurance Co and the very next day the vehicle was collected as per Virseker and moved to Upington.

Friday 6 May, the person dealt with the claim and a assesor came to inspect the car. They made an appointment with our son, but did not phone him to go with them to the vehicle and to the place of accident - the Monday 9th of May, mr Du Plessis phoned my husband to tell him that our son had set fire on this vehicle - regarding to him, our son strike/beat or hit a big hole in the top of the vehicle and pulled the electrical wires from the vehicle to set fire. My husband was very upset and told this person that he do not believe a single word of that - this was the only vehicle that our son had and why should he damaged it - for there is a colleague who offered him an amount between R50000 and R55000 to buy the car on the 2nd of May. (The day after this accident.

The point is : the vehicle was registered in my husband's name, we paid the insurance on this vehicle - for heavens sake, why on earth will our son wanted to get rid of the vehicle knowing that he would not have any vehicle to drive. He lives and work on a farm more than 100km from the nearest town.

Mr Du Plessis, from the underwriters for Virseker, "Telesure" also promised to send a report to my husband - till date the report did not show up. The only report received was to tell us that our son is a risc for their company and that he may not be insured with them any more - but in the meantime they cancelled my son's insurance with them - but not ours (the legal insured for this vehicle).

We are so unhappy with this issue - we never claimed a single sent from Virseker - we have our short term insurance with them from 2012. Beforehand we were insured through our co-operation (farmers) and with them we also have only 3 claims for theft and burglary : small amounts and years ago, if I am correct, it was more than 9 years ago.

Now this happened - a mechanic told us that no vehicle can run with a "big hole in the top of the engin" The engin should be removed from the body of the car to damage the top. And if our son wanted to strip the wiring - the car could not move that far.

Nothing we did or correspond with Virseker, has been solved. They still phone our son - not us (the insured).

Mr Du Plessis told my son that he or we cannot take this issue to the ombudsman for short term insurance before 6 months have expired. Why - after 6 months we still do not have an other vehicle and after 6 months they will have another inspection etc, etc.

We are so disgusted with this issue - and want to claim all our premiums back from this company who claims that they are there for "Afrikaans speaking people".

Nevertheless we heard of many people that are unhappy with this kind of companies and waiting very long for claims. to be paid out.

What else can we do - my sister's son lost two bakkies in two years time, burnt to the ground - and their insurance company did not have all these nonsence to solve the claims. And for sure they did not accused him of damaging his vehicles or accused him of ********ity as done against our son.

Why on earth we made the mistake to get insured with a company like this!!!

Please help us with this case. Virseker Insurance is not the company they advertise!!
