Subscription Services
On Tuesday 03/05/2016, I received an unsolicited SMS saying “Thank you for subscribing to linkmobi/promo at R25 per week. To UNSUBSCRIBE send SMS “stop” to 41765. T&cs apply” I only notice this sms this morning. So I sms Stop to 41765, receive a sms “Thank you, Your message has been received” before checking my airtime and seeing they R25 has been debited. On calling Virgin Mobile customer care I am informed that they only debited my account after I sent the sms “Stop” to 41765 and that I am currently subscribed to this service and need to dial *133*1# to cancel. I inform the Customer Care Rep that this is in fact against the consumer protection act, to which she replies that this is how subscription services work, 1. They send you an unsolicited sms, saying sms stop to unsubscribe, 2. Once you sms stop you are now subscribed and they can debit your account. This is not acceptable and I expect more from a service provider. Furthermore, on asking, I was informed that they do not even have a contact number for the people they willingly hand my money over to.
Hello ryoc,
Thank you for your query.
As advised you do need to dial *133*1# to unsubscribe/delete all active subscriptions. Virgin Mobile does not have access to allow/block these subscriptions services. This is up to the user. These subscription services are deducted from your airtime.
You may also contact Waspa on *** for further assistance in order to block all future subscriptions.
Kind Regards
Alicia
