Bad Advice Given, Failure to Remedy
<p>Our pets were installed with Back Home microchips in preparation for a move overseas. We contacted Back Home support requesting an update of the registered details and were advised by the database manager to use a service called "www.registermicrochip.com" as that was the "National Database" in the USA. After registering with, and paying the organization, it appears that "registermicrochip.com" may be a money-making ****. Complaints about them and their affiliated web sites abound. The promised services were never received. Further, there is no single "National Database" in the USA - there are several, most of which charge fees and don't share information. </p> <p>I brought this to the attention of Back Home who have ignored the information. This is very disappointing given the potential for a tragic outcome for any missing pets. The apparent lack of interest in the welfare of pets displayed in this case stands in stark contrast to the rather more uplifting and positive social media presence maintained by Virbac.</p> <p>Almost 4 months have passed and still no response despite numerous e-mails.</p>

We regret that you had such a terrible experience. We have taken steps in the past years to make people aware that when immigrating, they need to contact the local vet in the country they are immigrating to, for advice on which microchip database they should register their pets on.
The BackHome database is only for residents in South Africa, Botswana and Namibia, so we cannot accommodate contact details for other countries. However, our BackHome microchips are ISO 11784 and ISO 11785 compliant and can be read by scanners worldwide.
