VHI - ************

I was ******* into buying a membership in VHI and promised that should I not be happy I may cancel within 3 months after signing up. I was told that I will only lose R449.00 and get the rest of my money back. I asked the consultant, Marlon, several times about the cancelation policy and he assured me that I will only lose R449.00 On reviewing the contract, I realised that Mr Marlon used discriminatory marketing practises to mislead me into signing the contract to make an immediate payment of R14 449.00. He failed to disclose important information in a fair and honest manner. I was misled into signing a monthly debit order form for an amount of R3 374.00. On contacting VHI directly, I was told that I will be liable for 50% of the monthly fee if I cancel now & no refund of my initial deposit. The contract was signed on 22 January 2019.Within 5 days we contacted VHI to review our contract and we were told that the membership is not yet activated. On 5 February 2019, VHI was contacted again and this is when we found out that the full refund is only applicable within a 5-day period. The department of consumer protection has been contacted and we urge all who have experienced a similar incident to contact the department of consumer affairs. Their details are as follows: ********** **********
