Mislead by VHI consultant to sign contract with VHI

1. My husband was contacted constantly contacted by a woman saying that we have won a free holiday. All we have to do is come to listen to a presentation, no strings attached. 2. He said that we already belong to a Holiday club and are not interested. 3. She kept on phoning back and insisted that we really have already won the holiday and just need to come in to claim it. He told her that were were not going to buy anything and she said definitely not and we must leave our credit cards at home. 4. He eventually agreed and we made the appointment. 5. When we arrived we had to fill in a form on which we indicated which Holiday club we belong to. 6. We were taken to a table where the consultant Clement asked if we can just listen to the presentation. In this presentation we were shown all the wonderful places and extremely good prices we could get holidays for. 7. Then they did this lucky 'draw' where you have to look at the last three numbers of your credit card or any other bank card to win R20,000. 8. He asked us if we would be interested to join VHI. I told him that I am not in the financial position to join any club for that matter. 9. He then began to tell us about the shortfalls that people experience with the holiday clubs, not being able to get accommodation at the coast etc. etc. (which is true) and how they always have places available where ever and whenever you want. 10. I told him again that I was not interested because I have too much debt and am in the process of trying to get out of it. 11. He then went on to tell us how he had helped his parents and how much money they got from VHI . 12. I told him again that I could not afford to join another Holiday club. He then focused on my husband and said that we could get R80 000 within a short period of time if they could use my midweeks to sell on our behalf. He kept on saying that he doesn't want my points at my holiday club, he only needs access to specials and midweeks etc. I didn't actually know what he was talking about. I told him again that I can't afford to buy into any other holiday club. 13. He then kept on talking about the thousands of rands that we would get, and then my husband said if that was the case, it would help me to get out of debt. My husband asked him if that was a promise and he said yes, it is a promise. 14. He then said that we need to pay a deposit and I said that I do not have funds on my credit card. My husband also said that he doesn't have enough funds in his credit card. He asked for my husbands card and said he will look. He said he was only going to check he won't put anything through. He asked his manager for a code and then punched in something and said see it's easy. He had then put the amount through on the card. My husband did not get a sms indicating that funds went through on his credit card. He only got a notification a week later saying that he had overspent on his card. 15. I did sign the contract with much uneasiness, and was told that the payment amount would be R1500 for the next two years. I was upset and felt bul**** into doing this, but he assured us that it would not be a problem, because we are going to get enough money before December for me to pay my husband back for the deposit and also cover the monthly payments. 16. He did not mention that there was a cooling off period for us to withdraw from the contract. 17. The first payment of R1500 went off at the end of November, and I then got a sms informing me that I was now registered with VHI. 18. I sent e-mail requesting information and to be able to contact this Clement to find out what had actually happened, realizing that we had possibly been ****med. I did not get a response on this e-mail. I later sent another e-mail and insisted on getting a response from them. I then received a call where they asked for my username and password of the Holiday club that I belong to. I asked her why and she said so that they are able to manage my stock. I said to her why because he deliberately said they do not want my points and will not take them. I told her that I was very upset and how I had told him constantly that I could not afford this whole setup. 19. If she had told us from the beginning who they were we would have been able to google them and would have seen that they are ********. She never mentioned once from the beginning who they were. 20. Another thing is on the 'free holidays' that we got, we also noticed afterwards that we do not qualify for the holiday as my husband is too old and we do not earn the required income to qualify for the holiday. 21. He did not inquire about our financial position and did not do a needs analysis. I repeatly told him that I cannot afford it. 21. I would like to cancel this contract with VHI but can't seem to find any information telling us how to.
