Avoid Upwork.com if you have an ID book and not an ID card

This is a warning to other South Africans who still carry the old ID book that you will not be able to succeed in getting your ID verified by Upwork (an international freelance work website). Their system only recognises ID or driver's licence cards, and verification is done by uploading a live photograph of your ID or driver's licence. However, if you carry the older ID book like I do, the system cannot 'find corners' on the ID as it is only designed for cards and not books and hence verification will fail. They offer three other ways to get to the same process all result in the same problem. They will not accept an e-mailed version no matter how you explain the issue. If you cannot verify ID through the system, they will suspend your account and withhold payment. Please don't get into the same situation as me where they refuse to accommodate an alternative submission method and then prevent you from being paid even after delivering work.
