Wrongful claim of debt to the university

I was a student at the university however due to financial problems I had to leave, I went to see the counsellor as advised to received the deregistration form which was done. However 2 years later I am receiving correspondence stating I owe the university an amount of R10 000.00 plus for outstanding fees. I have advised both their attorney's and department head of the humanities department that I cannot be held liable as I was no longer a student. This was communicated beginning of February this year, I am still receiving messaging stating if I do not pay I will be blacklisted which I have not received any summons or appeared in court to defend their claim. I wish to get this matter resolve amicably without any further steps and avoid having my good name/credit tarnished due to them not following up with the counsellor for such information.<br> <br> Please respond swiftly.
