UJ administration a shambles...

The university (faculty of built engineering) accounts to no other when communicating with the outside world. Around this time in 2017, my daughter who is an engineering student with UJ was asked to provide the official academic record by her employer before the company closed for the festive season. The company is based in Mpumalanga. It became a nightmare for her just to contact her faculty. In desperation she asked me to call the university on her behalf. For two days I was on the phone, ringing with no answer. I even suspected they were closed for the year. But on second thought I drove to Kingsway campus, only to find the whole faculty admin staff on duty. It was difficult to control myself when I heard phones ringing in the building without answers, like an organised thing. The attendant very courteously asked how he could help me. I first expressed disappointment with their service before passing my daughter's student number and asking her to email my child her results. Her boss, a big Black woman, obviously South African, overheard my request and wanted to stop the attendant from helping me, insisting they only dealt with students themselves. I did not reply, only looked at her through the open door of her office. But then, in a second the attendant of West African accent had already emailed the results to my daughter. I was made to sit down and ask my daughter to call the faculty on my phone (because they were not answering theirs). As I sat there in anger, my daughter texted first to say she got them. This week, 2018, my daughter called me from Mpumalanga gain, within the same request. My first call went unanswered, but there was a glimmer of hope because the line passed through switchboard. On my second call I had no choice but to warn the switchboard operator about not being prepared to go last year's route. She gave me a line where there was a response. I was given an email address for my daughter to request her results. Companies need these results to budget for the coming years' fees and universities should know that. In fact UJ should have that mechanism where they send results to employers immediately they become available. I hope she will gets those results before 21 December or else we might try SpeakOut!
