Poor management at the University of Johannesburg

I was a student at UJ from 2012 - 2014. I paid all my fees in full by the end of that period. In June 2015, I was contacted by Simone Rayners from the NSFAS office at Bunting Road Campus to come sign for a bursary I received from the HW SETA, which was supposed to pay for my 2014 fees. Since I had already paid the fees for that year in full, I was told that I will receive a full refund for that year (2014). In addition, I was told that it would take 4 - 6 months to process and I would receive my refund.

Fastforward to January 2016, I had not received any correspondence from UJ at all. I called in and they kept telling me that they would get back to me, in which they never did. I kept calling until a man by the name of Ashlen Naidoo picked up on the case. He kept sending mails that said he was still busy investigating the matter and would revert back to us (both my father and I were contacting UJ at this point). He even sent us a mail with the names of students who received the very same bursary from the HW SETA, who either went to UJ or other institutions.

It is now 2018 and they still have not concluded the case. I have been in contact with Sandra Champion, and Daphney Nemakhavhani, who have both not been very helpful. They sing the same song as Ashlen, saying they will get back to me. I have always been the one to follow up. There was one occasion where Daphney called me and asked me if I was told that the bursary was approved. I made it a point to clarify because from my understanding, thr word "approved" means I had to have app**** for something. I informed her that I never app**** for the bursary, the SETA selected me to be one of the recipients of a full final year bursary payout. I don't know if she was trying to twist the story to favour the institution or if she was genuinely collecting the pieces of the puzzle to formulate a full story. She also said that the person who was supposed to investigate the case (Thilivhali Mukondeleli) had resigned so they would have to launch a new investigation from her side. She (Daphney) has still failed to revert back.

From where I stand, I don't think it is coincidental that Thilivhali resigned just after I laid my grievance with the university.

Three years later and I'm still fighting a case that was meant to be concluded by the end of 2015. The university brought it's own name into disrepute. I am disgusted by the way they have handled this matter. They have should very little interest in this matter.
