Tigerbrands medical scheme (universal)
We have comprehensive cover with universal, it is not cheap. Pathology tests I has last year (for a chronic condition) has not been paid, now I am handed over for that, my son was in hospital with emergency surgery and they did not pay one of those pathology tests, just telling me they can't process it now because it is deemed as stale. Everything has to pay from our savings, I mean EVERYTHING, spectacles, contraception, GP and specialist fees, blood tests, histology, psychiatry, acute medicine and most chronic medications. I refer to their member guide as advertised: Frames and lenses R1600, this is not a separate benefit, it pays from your SAVINGS. Oral contraceptives: R1500, not a separate benefit, yip you guessed it SAVINGS. Just to mention a few. We are on Tigerbrands medical scheme, Option A and last year our out of pocket expenses was well over R20 000. I would love to speak to the fund manager. Sasol looks better after their members than Tigerbrands and universal. We are a family of 6, 4 children and relatively healthy, who can afford to pay over R12 000 per month to be covered and end up paying for almost everything cash? Go to the dentist once and you have a bill of R1800, paying from savings.
