Unfair Deductions
On the 4th of November 2015, I recharged my prepaid meter with R150 and I only got about R12, I then phoned blue label to find out what is happening n they referred me to a company called Impact meter 010 500 *** and they said to have been instructed by my landlord to collect R24000 from the electricity I recharge because my 2 bedroomed unit is arreas. The landlord failed to prove to me where the amount is coming and I have asked him to seek legal ways in order to sort the matter but he preferred to USE Impact meters to do debt collection for him. We have found out that he charges extra R43 when you deposit the rent into the account he provided and if u do not pay the R43,he fines you R150 fine and this money accumulate and when asked to prove,be ran to UNIPIN.....is Impact meter a legal institution to do debt collection for landlords? How do they verify if the mo ey is indeed owed? Impact meter provides electricity and should do that and let the law deal with such issues because impact meter was never involved in the rental agreement n I did not sign for 43 or 150 that Impact meter is deducting
Thank you for your query. Unfortunately, landlords do have the capability to recover outstanding amounts on electricity purchases. These amounts are decided between the landlord and service providers. Unipin simply delivers the information provided by the service providers. The only advice we can offer is to engage the conversation between Impact meters and the landlord.
