Violation of rights and lack of empathy for disabled people

If, previously, I never thought that Uber could sink as low as some of its more nefarious competition - today that has changed.

Yesterday, my wife, who is visually disabled and travels with a guide dog, ordered a ride via Uber Assist. When the driver arrived, he refused them access to his vehicle. This is not the first time that this has happened. According to Uber's policies, no driver may refuse a customer with a service animal and drivers on Uber Assists are expected to go the extra mile.

In trying to get some resolution to the matter, my wife has been given the run-around. From emails where the respondent simply regurgitates Uber policy to those where they have clearly missed the point that my wife was with a service dog. she has had to deal with responses where it appears that someone is merely copying and pasting from another document.

You might ask, "Where is the sincere apology?" and "How is Uber planning on addressing such issues, to prevent others from enduring the same abuse?" The answer to these questions lies with Uber ... I do hope that they don't play the "they don't work us. They are only contractors" game.

Wondering if anyone else has had a similar experience. If so, I encourage you to share - we live in a country that protects the rights of the vulnerable - why should that be ignored??
