Unsafe Uber Experience: Wrong Driver, Drunk, and Unknown Passengers

Dear Uber Support,

I am writing to report a serious safety violation involving a trip I booked through your platform.

On July 5 at 11:55 PM, I requested an Uber Go ride from 332 Jules St, Malvern, Johannesburg. The trip was assigned to Nkosinathi Sizwe Sydwell, driving a Suzuki Ertiga. The vehicle arrived 30 minutes late, and when it did, I noticed that Nkosinathi was not driving. Instead, he was seated in the front passenger seat, while an unknown man was driving the car, and another unknown man was in the back seat.

The man driving appeared to be under the influence of alcohol — his speech, behavior, and overall condition made it clear that he was not sober or fit to be behind the wheel. This was extremely alarming and made me feel immediately unsafe.

Because of this, I refused to get into the car. I was afraid for my safety and could not trust the situation. Despite not taking the ride, I was still charged R100, and the trip shows as cancelled in the app.

This situation could have ended very badly, and I am deeply concerned that something so unsafe was allowed to happen under Uber’s name. I trusted this platform to prioritize rider safety, and this experience has shaken that trust.

I respectfully request: • A full refund for the trip • A formal investigation into the trip and individuals involved • Confirmation that appropriate action will be taken to prevent this from happening to anyone else

Please find attached a screenshot of the trip details for your reference. I urge you to treat this matter with urgency and seriousness.
