Uber's insane fare
Yesterday I had an incident with UBER in Durban. I had taken a trip which I’ve taken quite a few times from my home to a nearby shopping center. When requesting I was given the upfront fee - R26+- which I accepted as I use this route often and that is the usual amount.
My issue came half way through the trip (already traveling in my Uber) when the amount changed on it’s own to R92. A R66 difference which is about 3 times more than the original amount.
When arriving at my destination the driver asked me for the R92 which I paid in cash as I was in no position to argue (being a tiny young woman knowing stories of how Uber can sometimes be dangerous).
I then decided that the safest thing to do was to report the issue to Uber. After sending them numerous complaints they rep**** back saying that the upfront fee was R92. (For a 1.4KM trip?!)
I then again explained that the trip fee changed half way through with no traffic, stops etc.
They then said that I had accepted the fee and there was nothing they could do.
Which is even crazier as after I was done shopping I took a return (having no other options to go home) and this charged at R24.
Uber needs to rectify this. I’ll never use Uber again. Taxify it is.
