Uber Surge Charges : Exploitation

<p>On Friday 10 February 2017 in Stellenbosch I was charged R68.00 for 1.88 km (5 min 57 seconds) trip at 15:17. Just half an hour before that, the same trip was charged at R34.00 (1.75 km @ 5 min 41 seconds) at 14:40.</p> <p> </p> <p>The reason Uber is giving for this exorbitant discrepancy and charge, is a "surge charge" which supposedly means a shortage/non-availability of cars. This is just another "trick" of Uber to profiteer. I presume their previous trick (the rediculously high discrepancy bewteen estimate and actual charges) generated too many compliants and admin (refunds), so they have now discarded that dishonest system, and have proceeded on to yet another dishonest system.</p> <p> </p> <p>This practice is exploitation and profiteering and should be exposed and investigated.</p>
