Uber supports *****ulent driver conduct and ignores customers
I am a regular Uber customer and use Uber weekly for transport between work and campus. On 8 April, an Uber driver, Mthokozisi Lungani Nhlakanipho, falsely reported that I did not pay for a trip, when at most there was only an underpayment of approximately R4.
Instead of correcting a minor discrepancy, the driver reported non-payment in full, which caused Uber to charge me again for a trip I had already paid for in cash. I have therefore paid for the same trip twice and Uber owes me a refund.
What is even more disturbing is Uber Support’s handling of this matter. I have raised this complaint more than 10 times over 15+ days and have been sent from pillar to post, with my case repeatedly closed as “resolved” when it has not been resolved at all.
Support has been unhelpful, dismissive, and keeps asking me for information Uber already has access to, including driver details that customers cannot access after a trip ends. Instead of investigating a false report by a driver, Uber appears to be protecting dishonest conduct while leaving the customer out of pocket.
This has caused financial loss, frustration, and a complete loss of trust in Uber. I re**** on Uber because I believed it was safer and more accountable than alternatives, but this experience has shown me otherwise.
I am publicly requesting:
* A refund for the duplicate payment. * A proper investigation into the false non-payment report. * Accountability for the repeated mishandling of my complaint by Uber Support.
At this point, I cannot recommend Uber to anyone if this is how customers are treated when drivers act dishonestly.
