Uber one is not worth it
South Africa desperately needs a reliable alternative to Uber. I recently had a terrible experience with a driver who ****med me. I realized I had forgotten my bag at the Airbnb just a few minutes into the trip. I informed the driver, and he suggested that I should “add the stop back to the Airbnb” to retrieve my bag, then add another stop at my final destination. This caused my fare to jump from 100 rand to 300 rand. However, I made it to my destination well before the app’s estimated arrival time, and none of the extra stops were necessary.
When I reached out to Uber to complain, they insisted that I was charged the correct amount. This is incredibly frustrating, especially considering I’ve been an Uber One subscriber for over a year. On top of that, I’ve noticed they no longer offer discounts or Uber Cash like they used to. It’s a really poor experience, and it seems like Uber is no longer providing the value it once did. South Africa needs a better, more trustworthy alternative.
