UBER GANG WAR
Just over a week ago I booked an UBER ride ..3 times it was cancelled by the different drivers. I tracked their ETA’s and each time within 4 min on ETA I would see the drivers going into the opposite direction clearly driving off at high speed. I the received a pop up message informing me the driver aborted the trip and I must “PLEASE TRY AGAIN” a colleague of mine tried on his app - same story.... however after an hour a driver came out. On arrival I asked him why it took so long and if there is a problem? His reply was “people don’t want us to make money “ We turned the corner and stopped at the red light. All of a sudden an AUDI A3 pulled up next to us ... it appeared he was in a hurry and wanted to cross the red light first as soon as it turned green. My driver pointed out that they can go before us. They insisted we go first. We pulled off and at the next red light the occupants of the AUDI cut in front of us and jumped out. They hit on the car an tried to open the doors. My diver reversed and got away by skipping the red light. A high speed chase followed through the CBD of Germiston. The driver disconnected his app and requested me to use my app to navigate an alternative route to my destination. I called my office to call the police as we were pursued at high speed...skipping all red lights. I asked my driver to stop and let me out. He refused and rep**** “ we are loosing them. We are getting away “.... It was not possible to get rid of the AUDI A3. The UBER driver made a U-turn in oncoming traffic..... skipped another red light and went into a 3 lane one way road. I asked him to drop me off. His reply was “ they will attack me” meaning himself. Eventually the AUDI crashed into us from the driver side. The UBER driver stopped and ran off.... with his phone...not sure about the car keys? The UBER/car was now abandoned in the middle of the road and I was trapped trying to unlock the central locking of the Nissan Almera. I managed to get out.... and walked back to my office (we drove a full city loop) In the mad chase I didn’t end the call to my colleague. All along he heard the full drama unfolding. Insult to injury I received an email from UBER wanting me to rate my ride with my driver.....and a bill..... I rep**** to their email... reporting the incident- I had to answer generic questions. They also requested an alternative contact number for me. It been 8 days and not a peep or squeak from them. When I submitted my reply , I received a pop up that said “ we apologise for the unfortunate incident” THAT WAS IT!
