Uber Exploitation-40% Surcharge 3 minutes before trip!
I reserved an uber the night before my trip on 24 Feb 2018. The fee range displayed was R530 +/- R730. At 8:57am, 3 minutes before my scheduled drive I received an sms stating surge charge. It was highly upsetting as my trip was over 1 hour away, there was no way I could arrange transport in 3 minutes and still ensure I could make it for my appointment in Franschhoek. Highly upsetting as a customer I was charged a surge of 40% of my entire uber fee. Well over R200 more than the range that was displayed to me when booking my uber. This is highly dissapointing as a uber customer given that my trip back to Sea point was R633 and subsequent enquiring with Franschhoek wine tram would have charged me R550 RETURN from Sea point to Franschhoek. I have also been charged 7 minutes waiting. I was outside the President hotels main entrance at 8:55 am. The uber driver was at the wrong delivery entrance and had to xll me. Why was I charged for this. I feel highly upset that I was surge charged 40% and was left with no time to make alternative means of transport. Highly Dissapointing being so significantly overcharged. R980. 73 for a 87km trip from Sea Point is completely unreasonable. This is more than what I paid for 4 days car hire with Europcar and almost what I paid for my Mango flight from Jhb to Cape Town. This was a highly Dissapointing experience for me.
I received confirmation of my uber trip being scheduled Fri, Feb 23, 2018 at 10:54 PM. This is 10 hours prior to my pick up time as such, I do not see the justification in being charged an additional 40% of my entire uber trip and notified of this 3 MINUTES prior to my journey of over an hour away and risk missing a paid for appointment.
