Uber Driver's Unacceptable Behaviour - Stole Phone, Caused Financial Loss, and Distress

I'm sharing my shocking experience with an Uber ride on 26th -May 2024 Makhaza to Durbanville. After arriving at church, I realized my phone was missing and called it, but it rang without answer. I reported the lost item via Uber on my daughter's phone, and the driver eventually found it but switched it off, thinking it wouldn't be traceable.

Thanks to Apple's innovative "Find My" feature, my son was able to track the phone's location and movement, leading us to the driver's residence. We confronted the driver, who had not only switched off the phone but also removed the SIM card in an attempt to conceal it. It's clear that he actively looked for the phone, found it, and decided to keep it for himself.

This experience not only caused me significant distress but also resulted in a substantial loss of income, as I spent almost the entire day trying to recover my phone. I had noticed the phone missing within minutes and reported it to Uber promptly. Despite this, the driver's actions and Uber's lack of effective customer support led to a prolonged and costly ordeal.

I demand compensation for the money spent chasing this man when he was intending on keeping this phone and the distress caused. Uber must take responsibility for their driver's actions and provide adequate support to their customers. I hope Uber takes necessary steps to address these issues, including re-vetting their drivers, providing better support for customers, and offering fair compensation for the harm caused. I know that Uber shouldn’t be responsible for my carelessness, but at this instant this driver was deliberately dodging with the phone. I had to go to his house to report it on top of that he still maintained that he was going to return it but it was switched off not because battery died for intentions of concealing it as well as the fact that my SIM card was removed from the phone. The driver’s name is Moses he drives a dark grey Chevrolet cruise with the license CAA 537784.
