Theft by Uber Driver
We paid for a ride from the King Shaka airport to the Zimbali Fairmont Hotel in Ballito on Monday 27 August. The driver (Sifiso) dropped us off at the entrance to the hotel where the bell hob met us to assist with check in and luggage. The Uber driver did not get out of the car to assist with removing the luggage from the boot. He drove off immediately after the luggage was removed When we got to the check in counter at the hotel, we realised that my husband left his iphone on the front seat of the uber car. We phone the phone and it rang, but nobody answered. The hotel tried to stop the driver at the security check at the entrance to the resort but he has already left. We phoned the phone several times more but the driver did not answer the phone. Later in the afternoon we managed to get the driver's telephone number from the security check point at the hotel and phoned him from another number. He denied that he had the phone and insisted that if he had it he would have returned it. We KNOW we left te phone in his car. He did not bring the phone back and we now consider it to be theft. We tried to report this matter to Uber but have not really been successful in getting any feedback to the alternative cell hone number provided or the e-mail address provided. I feel that this is a serious matter and would like Uber to at least reply to me. Not having a call centre is very inconvenient because i have to rely on online communication from a phone I no longer have.
