refund should happen immediately

This afternoon at 3.30 i requested a Uber ride to work. The driver accepted my ride and he was 15 minutes away. Uber already took my money out of my bank account so i was forced to wait for 15 minutes for him. He then asked me where am i going I then told him im going to Kenilworth. He then told me to cancel my ride and i told him no Uber already took my money . He then cancelled. I then couldn't go to work because the money Uber took was my last money and they dont refund it immediately. So my concern is why is Uber quick to take the money out of the accounts and not quick to refund? In the past the rider can check the times and cancel if its to long and Uber refund immediately .What has changed?Why must we wait for hours or maybe days before the refund reflects. What if its night time and im alone and the Uber driver cancels my ride and i have no other way to get home because Uber took my last money to get home. I was so inconvenienced this afternoon and also signing a warning for not getting to work because of this **** protocol they have.
