<p>Yesterday l was at OR Tambo airport in the evening to pick up a friend who flew in from outside the country. He was impressed that South Africa has a Uber service. Unfortunately, his positive impression quickly soured as in one hour, the driver would pick up our request and afer 5 mins they would cancel it. In one hour the driver over 10 drivers cancelled out trip request.</p> <p> </p> <p>I believe this was for two reasons:</p> <p>1. I was racially profiled because l am black. In a period of an hour two different white families where picked up by uber drivers. They where standing near us. Are you saying the money from causacian's is better than from us native africans</p> <p>2. I stay in the surrounds of Kempton Park (Allen Groove) and because it was a short trip, your drivers would pick up my request and cancel it. Some drivers would even phone to find out where l am going?</p> <p> </p> <p>Specific examples:</p> <p>1. Uber driver toyota corrolla (22 :36) canceled the trip after he called me to find out my destination</p> <p>2. Uber driver VW Polo (22:43) asked me to cancel because his car would not start. When l refused, he said"he could not cancel on his side and its my fault because l would be able to use the app. I canceled because l need to call another cav.</p> <p>3. The other drivers would pick up my request, not move at all or call me to find out where l am going, and cancel the trip request.</p> <p> </p> <p>After an hour, my phone battery finished and l took a regular cab home. I know other people complain of this behaviour, and if Uber doesn't want our business, they should tell us, and we will find other cabs to use.</p> <p> </p> <p> </p>
