Poor service and high charge

There are two incidents revolving around this trip.

1. The phones
2. The driver claims we messed in his car and charged a high fare

I have been writing to Uber everyday since the incident but I will try and give you the details as they happened.

We got into the car and did not check if the car was clean or not, under normal circumstances you would not do that anyway. We had a few drinks yes, my phone was in my hand, and my partners phone was in his pocket. We immediately fell asleep in the car, with my partner seated behind the driver.

When we reached our destination and the driver woke us up, at this time, he had gotten out of the car and opened the door for us nudging us to come out, and screaming that we had messed his car. We disputed this, it was impossible that either myself or my partner could have vomited in that car because my partner was seated on the mess and his pants had been wet from behind. there was no mess on any other area of the car. This only logically means that the mess was there before us, pity we had not detected it before. And there were two people in the back seat, surely one would have heard the other vomit. We asked when this happened, he did not have a response and just said he would sort it out. Little did we know that a fare that could have been R133 would be R504.

As I reached my apartment I realised I did not have my phone, and at this time my partner reached for his pockets to find that his phone was not there either, I then rushed back outside to find the driver still there, we searched for the phones in the car and found nothing. This raised eyebrows because the phones were there when we got into the car for our ride.

We then filed a report with Uber and only then did the driver respond to say the phones were under the car seat and found at the car wash. I found this impossible to be true because I had gone back to him and we did search the car for the phones.

Upon several phone calls between ourselves and the driver, most of which rang unanswered or straight to vmail, trying to locate him all weekend so that we can go to him and pick up the phones, he had given us the run around. If he was not in Pretoria and arriving on Sunday morning at ten back in Cape Town, he was "out of town and coming back at ten in the evening, so lets meet in the morning" Monday morning I called him around 8am and he said he would be in CT by 10am. I called him again just after 9 to ask him to go drop one of the phones at the airport at ten because my partner was leaving and would meet him there. He said he was unable to, he was headed for Tygerberg Hospital because his son had passed away there and needed to attend to that. I told him I cannot go to Tygerberg and gave him a choice to come to Cape town where he picked us up or Blaauwberg where he dropped us and he refused. We got into an argument because I told him that he had taken advantage that we had been drinking and he took our phones, he dropped the phone on me several times when I asked him where the Uber offices are and that he should take phone there.

I had to get the police involved by now because I felt I was now being violated. Constable Khoza called this gentleman and he was rude to him too, dropping the phone in his ear when asked the location of the offices.

Driver said the phones were at the offices and we should go there. We eventually found the offices and when we got there, to our dismay, there were no phones, the driver had not been there. even after he had rudely told the constable and myself to go pick up the phones.

He arrived as we were leaving and was very ****y about his rude behaviour. He saw nothing wrong in what he had done.

While I understand and sympathise with the passing of his son - it does not condone his behaviour.

At the same time I understand the Uber policy around the cleaning fee etc, BUT, in this case, we as Innocent Chance's riders were not responsible for the mess, if we were, we would pay with no hassle.

Over and above that I had to pay for the other phone to be couriered. That is not on.
