Paid Uber Courier driver did not deliver parcel
I do not easily resort to venting my frustrations on the "Hello Peter" platform, as I always try to work out a dispute with the other party. But, in this case, I got no positive response or solution from the Uber Courier Service, who took my parcel and ran instead of delivering it. My complaint is that I ordered an PAID for an Uber Courier to collect a small parcel (a faulty medical device) from a customer to bring to my electronic workshop to repair it so that I can return it on the same day as this device is used in medical emergencies. The Uber Courier did fetch the parcel but went to a different street number (800 metres from my shop). I messaged him that he was at the wrong number and politely requested him to bring it to me, where I was waiting on the curb for him. He refused to drive the extra 800 metres and told me to change the street number on the App first. I was unable to do it, so I cancelled the trip to book a new trip from where he was to my workshop. It was, however, also not possible, and I immediately reverted to Uber support on the App to get the Driver to deliver. I was however informed that the driver would contact me. He never did. I have tried several times since then to communicate with the Uber Support services through the Uber app, but I am getting the same automated answer that the Uber driver in question will contact me. This incident happened just after 12 pm on Tuesday, 4 March, and since then, the driver made no effort to contact me while possessing a medical device whose replacement value is over R9000. Where I initially told the customer that she would have a repaired instrument back within 3 hours, I have now to say to her that her parcel was not only not delivered but is missing! Uber's uncooperativeness caused me extreme embarrassment and possible financial loss that could have been resolved if the driver had just gone that extra 800 metres. My small business spent, on average, R4000 per month with Uber, but now I can not trust the Courier Service anymore. Although the Uber company "only" facilitate the drivers, it seems there are no checks and balances in place when an Uber Courier driver decides to keep a parcel for himself instead of delivering it.
