Overcharged and unlistened to by Uber

On 5th Jan 2019, I took a trip with an Uber Van from Vantage apartments Tyrywhitt Avenue Rosebank to O.R.Tambo airport. All went well until my trip ended and then I received a billing alert for Rand 1,232, which was a shocking double the amount I had initially received as the estimated cost.

I complained about the amount charged. Initially, I received an email from Uber indicating that they had reduced the amount by Rand 3.33 on the basis that the driver had used an inefficient route (this was quoted in their email).

I took this as a rude joke given the amount being refunded was in the first instance peanuts and in the notably equal to the waiting charge component of my billing, which clearly has nothing to do with the driver taking an inefficient route.

I complained further (frustrated). This time I got a response that the reason the pricing was inordinately high was because a surge pricing of 1.7x had been app****. Apart from fact that this response was now contradictory to the initial response, I am very clear in my mind that no surge pricing notification had come through at the time of my request, and more so, I would not have proceeded with booking the trip had such high pricing been indicated before my request / booking.

So I am now faced with a situation where the Uber responses are contradictory and not helpful or addressing my issue. I feel cheated to say the least, if not bul****.

Can Uber address this situation or should I take this as a complaint all you can moment?
