Not happy

I used uber Friday 13th December, like I often do and satisfied with there normal fees. The difference now is, I was charged an additional surge fee. When I queried this, dealt with several uber agents because i refuse to pay this fee, i was told it's an additional charge because of high usage. I not only find this ridiculous but just day light *******. The surge fee is much higher than the normal fee. The entire trip was billed jus over R2000, an amount I never paid before and uber refuse to remove this amount from my trip invoice because of policies and procedures. A policy they created as a loop hole to ***** from unsuspecting uber user like myself.

Still no response from uber. I highly recommend that people use a different taxi service. Uber is a *******.

Thank you for getting in touch, Magdalene.

Sorry to hear about the issue. We have reviewed the trip and can see that the price displayed in the app at the beginning of the trip is the fare you'll be charged for the ride. Please note that if demand is high and surge pricing is in effect, your upfront price will take this into account.

When this happens, our system switches to charging based on the time and distance of the actual trip instead, using the rates that apply to the vehicle option you selected. Due to the increased demand, this trip was surging at a rate of 2.2x times the normal fare.

We can confirm that based on the pickup and drop off locations of the trip you took, this fare is correct.... above...is my facebook reply... so uber has the right to charge additional fees by up to ×7 or more, if they want to, simply because of high uber usage in a particular area at a specific time, keeping in mind tht this SURGE FEE, has absolutely nothing to do with the distance you travelling.
