Latest Uber scheme can catch you off guard
I am totally into Uber and use the service every day. They check up on me to ensure my safety. I like that. The service generally is great. BUT A NEW THING HAS POPPED UP WHICH POTENTIALLY CAN CAUSE YOU EMBARRASSMENT. The Uber money making scheme. Here is how it works, and I quote Uber verbatim: "Hi Judi,
Thank you for contacting us. Happy to clear the confusion.
For security reasons, Uber may place an authorisation hold of the fare which is shown at the time of requesting a ride. This may appear as “pending” or ““authorised”” on the bank statement.
Authorisation holds are voided by Uber within hours. However, they are released to your payment method within 7-10 business days, depending on your bank or payment service provider’s policy.
If you would like to confirm that a specific item on your statement is an authorisation hold, please reach out to your bank.
We appreciate your understanding."
This means they randomly take money from your account and hold it in escrow earning interest on your money for up to 7 days. I often wondered how they afford discounted rides without jeopardizing their drivers, well, now we know. Don't know about you but this rubs me up the wrong way.
