First and last Uber ride

On a recent visit to Johannesburg I used an Uber for the first (and probably the last) time.

I found the first driver to be quite reckless. We were about 15 meters from an intersection in a busy part of the city when the traffic lights turned amber. By the time we reached the intersection the lights were red. He crossed over as if the lights did not exist. He is entitled to risk his own life but how dare he do so with me as a passenger.

The driver on my return journey did not know how to get to my destination – a large Mall. He had to ask the way.

How are these drivers selected by Uber? Are their driving s****s tested? And their knowledge of the city? What a dreadful impression they would give to a foreigner. I am not surprised there is so much opposition to Uber in so many countries.
