Extremely Poor service from Uber!

On the evening of 17 December 2018, I requested a ride from Uber. He then got to a turn off where there was a road block. The road was empty and there were only police. I remember, there was a taxi that went ahead of us. The driver REVERSED the car from the road block, taking us off of the route.

He then drove us through UNLIT dirt roads. I asked him where he was taking us. He then said he was following the GPS. I told him that he was not telling the truth, as he had reversed away from our route, because he was running away from the police.

We told him the we were feeling unsafe and he then tried to take us back to the dirt road. We refused and told him that he was putting us at risk. We didn’t even know where we were.

He then said that he was doing me a favour. I told him that I was a paying customer and that I would report him.

He was extremely dishonest and he took us through Deepsloot, because he was running away from the police. At one point there were were men on the road, and he wanted to stop and ask them for directions. We objected because we told him that they were strangers in an unlit dirt road, and that it was dangerous!

I was extremely ill with laryngitis at the time and only got my voice back a few days later. When I felt better, I reported the incident. I am shocked that he was the one who behaved poorly and took a chance with our lives and yet I am the one who gets blocked of the app and he continues unaffected. Uber has made NO attempt to resolve the matter and their driver continues without being held accountable.

Is this common practice for your drivers to avoid police and are we expected to remain silent, when drivers behave inappropriately? There was no reason for him to reverse off of an empty road in the night, unless he had something to hide. This is why I was so upset.

My sister and I were so traumatized by the incident that we did not even let him drive us into my complex, but opted to walk in by ourselves. This was witnessed by the security guards at my gate.

We take Uber’s for safety, so it is extremely unsettling that you allow your drivers to avoid road blocks and take unsafe routes with passengers, all in the name of dodging the police.

We we explained to this man, that as women, he was placing us at risk of being ****d, which he did not take seriously.

Ubers has made no attempt to contact me or address this matter, which is infuriating.
