***** committed by Uber Drivers

Uber offers a great service, especially in a country like South Africa which does not have reliable public transport. Unfortunately, UBER is open to *****ulent activity if the drivers are not properly vetted by the company. I have experienced the following two situations regularly, viz.

1. You order an Uber; the driver accepts the ride and then changes his/ her mind perhaps because another client orders a ride and that client is closer to the Uber driver’s current location. The first client gets penalized with a R35 cancellation charge although he/ she never cancelled the order. THE DRIVER CANCELLED THE TRIP!

2. You pay cash for an Uber trip and Uber drivers conveniently NEVER have change. So, you ask the Uber driver to put the remaining cash into Uber Cash but this doesn’t happen. Instead, the Uber driver has scored a tip that is much larger than the value of the fare! UBER and UBER EATS need more controls to prevent *****! Alternatively, the drivers need to be vetted more stringently to ensure that they are HONEST operators!
