CHARGED FOR DRIVERS NEGLIGENCE
I requested a trip for my helper at 13:48 on wednesday the 15th of March 2023 which was meant to travel from my home address to my daughters primary school (3.9km apart) then from my daughters primary school to my toddlers day care and back home. The driver was Gwenikweni driving a Datsun Go registration number HJ90XRGP. The request was not made during peak traffic hour at 14:18 I received a call from daughter who was panicking and worried that my helper has still not arrived at her school to pick her up even though it had been over 30 minutes. I then checked my App and realised that the driver was offcourse with even the App asking if there is a problem given the fact that the vehicle had been stationary for a while. I contacted my helper who was in the vehicle to enquire what was happening and she informed me that the driver was getting lost to my daughters school and had wanted to instead go to my toddlers day care. I asked to speak to the driver and he informed me that the Uber app had not given him the address for the school and had instead given him the address for the toddler but he was getting lost cause he did not know the address for the school. He did not explain to me why he waited for almost 30 minutes before informing me of this. I nonetheless SMSed the school address and he only managed to get there at around 14:30. so it basically took him over 40 minutes to drive to a destination that is 3.9 km away at a time when there is o traffic. My helper got out the car to fetch my daughter and within 2 minutes my daughter called me informing me that the driver had driven off without them. I checked my App and realised that the trip was still reflecting as still active and counting as a driver despite the driver having driven off and leaving my helper and minor child. I then cancelled the trip myself and got charged a cancellation fee of R 114.00 by uber. It is important to note that the entire round trip with 4 stops had been quoted as R107.00 by uber because the distance to those points is not very high. I was instead charged R 114.00 for just going to one place 3.9km away and for a that distance taking almost an hour. I had to then call another uber for my helper and child who were now stranded and the uber kept assigning me to the same driver who has just taken off. I refused to have accept the new trip as a result and ended up calling another ehailling service to complete the trip. it took the other ehailling company 15 minutes to drive to the day care and back to my home. I am very disappointed at uber and feel that i have been cheated and charged a ridiculous amount for an incomplete trip for travelling to a place that's only 3.9 km away.
