I've used Uber almost everyday for the past 6 months & my payment option has always been cash. A few days ago I requested an uber just like I always do. A driver was sent for me. I stood in the sun for close to 20 minutes & decided to call the driver to ask what the hold up was about & he became rude to me & cancelled my trip.
Now, as you may know, if you or the driver cancels the trip after 5 minutes, the client is liable to pay part of the trip. In this case though, since it was the driver who cancelled the trip after making me wait for 20 minutes logic dictates that I shouldn't have to pay for part of a trip I obviously didn't use.
A new driver came. I reported the matter to him & told him that I don't understand why I have to pay for someone else's fault & rudeness. He advised me to write to Uber. I did, and the money I was initially liable to pay was credited to my uber account. Great! But now because of the rude driver who cancelled the trip & made me liable to pay for his incompetency, I was blocked from using cash (which I've done for the past 6 months with no hiccups).
When I wrote to uber to enquire why I am no longer allowed to use cash I was told it's because some drivers had complained of me refusing to pay full cash amounts. How convenient! So after 6 months of using Uber almost everyday drivers had been complaining about me & Uber wasn't doing anything about it, but only decided to act because of the incident with the rude driver who cancelled the trip with no reasons?
Uber further told me I can use a credit or debit account. Well guess what? I don't see the fairness in being bul**** to use either of the two payment options for something that wasn't my fault.
Uber must manage their drivers if they want to be successful in their business, especially since there's competition i.e Taxify. I refuse to be bul**** for someone else's incompetency.
