I am absolutely disgusted with the service received from Uber Eats (South Africa, Durban). I placed an order via Uber Eats, and it took over 45 minutes just to prepare. When the driver (Ibrah) was on the way, I had already provided my exact location and delivery instructions - my address is even available on Google Maps. Despite this, the driver drove around aimlessly and never responded to any of my multiple messages via the app. I called him five times - each call rang for a few seconds before going to voicemail. I even physically saw the driver up my road and tried to signal him, but instead, he turned around and left. He then uploaded an unclear photo of my meal and marked the order as delivered. The most shocking part? Uber Eats has ZERO reachable customer service. There is no contact number on the app or online. The “Help” option leads to an automated menu that just redirects you back to the unresponsive driver. I have proof of all my call attempts. Out of desperation, I even called the restaurant directly for assistance, but the manager - although calm - simply told me, “We only make the food.” No attempt to assist or resolve the issue. So much for customer care! In the end, I was frustrated, still hungry, and out of pocket. The only way I could contact Uber Eats was to upload a screenshot of the app showing my delivery was not received - in a review section! Almost 20–30 minutes later, I finally received a refund request notification, and I now await to even see if I actually get the refund. How can such a massive platform operate without a functioning customer service centre? How do you hire drivers who cannot even answer their phones? Is there no vetting or training process? This entire experience was unacceptable, and I will never use Uber Eats again. I will also be advising friends and family to avoid it entirely. Shame on you, Uber Eats - you have lost a loyal customer due to your incompetence, lack of accountability from your driver, and appalling customer support.
